There are a few factors to consider when deciding whether it’s worth making a claim. This includes:
If you believe you’re not at fault
If you and the other driver believe you’re not at fault, the other driver can lodge a claim under their insurance policy. In that case, you won’t have to pay the upfront excess. The other driver’s insurer will then organise the repair of your car.
If the repair amount is less than your excess
Depending on the extent of the damage, your total excess may cost more than repairing the damage privately. So, if you have a small scratch or dent, it may be better value for you to repair it yourself privately. If you do decide to lodge a claim with us and the repair work is less than your total excess, the difference will be refunded back to you. However, every claim on your policy may affect your premium for next year.
