If you believe your car has been stolen, the first thing you should do is report it to the police. If they can’t give you a copy of their police report immediately, they’ll give you an incident number.
After you’ve spoken to the police, you can then lodge your claim online with us. You can upload the police report during the process, but if you only have the incident number, you can enter it in the ‘police/emergency services’ section instead. Once you’ve lodged the claim online, we’ll get in touch with you to discuss the details.
If your car hasn’t been found within 14 days:
We’ll count it as being ‘unrecovered’ and a total loss. We’ll then pay out the amount you’re covered for, which is your car’s ‘market value’ (less any applicable deductions).
If you have the New for Old optional extra, we can supply you with a car of the same make and model (provided your car is less than 3 years old from the start of your latest period of cover) and a new car is available within 90 days of us deciding that your car is a total loss. If we can’t supply you with the same make and model within 90 days, we’ll supply you with a new car that is the nearest similar make and model to your car.
If your car has been found within 14 days:
Please tell us. We’ll arrange to have the car fully checked out before it’s returned to you. If there’s damage, and it’s repairable, we will either repair it or pay the amount of the assessed quote. However if the damage is too great, or it’s not economical to repair it, then the vehicle will be counted as a total loss.
If your car has been found after 14 days:
If your car has been found after 14 days and we’ve already paid out your claim, please let us know. Bingle becomes the new owner of that vehicle, and it becomes our responsibility.
