Some other reasons a payment might be declined are:-
- the card number you gave us is incorrect
- the card had expired

And here's something else to think about when managing direct debits from your account.
You may not always see the funds leave your account on the due date, particularly if it occurs just before, or during, a weekend or public holiday.
Also, debits can come out at various times throughout the day or night.
So keep this in mind when budgeting. It might be worth checking your account to confirm the instalment has been taken before you make that other large purchase.;-)
